ABOUT OUR ABALONE
We raise and nurture west coast, black lip and tiger abalone at our farm in Stanley, where they are nourished by the pristine waters of west Tasmania.
Tasmanian black lip abalone is particularly sought after, with its deep rich black lip and creamy delicate inner flesh.
Our commitment to quality means that Three Friends Abalone is not only perfectly textured and delicious, but highly nutritious.
It is a particularly strong source of selenium which is excellent for the immune system. It’s also low in calories, and a good source of protein, omega 3 and iodine.
You’ll find our abalone in top flight restaurants, and it can be purchased in cans or gift boxes here.
OUR PROCESS
LIFE IN THE BEGINNING
After selecting naturally spawning brood-stock, the strongest are transferred to a nursery where they feast on algae. It is here that they transform from larvae into tiny abalone.
Over the following six months the abalone will grow to about two centimetres in size.
GROWING OUT
We nurture the abalone and provide them with everything they need to thrive. Refreshed by the waters of west coast Tasmania and fed on a specially formulated cereal-based diet, our abalone live a cosseted existence.
They continue to grow for the next two to three years, until they are ready to be harvested.
LEAVING THE FARM
The highest quality abalone are carefully hand harvested by our farmers. Our abalone are then swiftly processed before being sent off to good restaurants and food-lovers.
QUALITY THROUGH HARMONY.
Our sense of friendship extends to the environment. We share an unyielding love for the natural world, and our methods reflect that.
Here in Tasmania, our power generation is 100% renewable. That gives us the opportunity to create some of the world’s most environmentally sound aquaculture practices.
The Three Friends Abalone farm has been designed and run to mimic the oceans’s natural cycles, and our produce is free from anything that wouldn’t be found in the sea.
